The latest update to this article provides a detailed list of all AMD Ryzen 7 7735U, Ryzen 7 7730U and Ryzen 7 6800U laptops that will be available in stores starting in the first half of 2023 and explains the specifications and performance of these. Existing AMD Ryzen. 7000 and Ryzen 6000 and 5000 platforms of previous generation phones.
AMD can finally compete with Intel in the ultrabook space with its recent Ryzen U hardware iterations, most notably its Ryzen 6000 Zen3+ upgrades with higher clocked 8C/16T processors, improved IPC over Ryzen 5000 platforms, and Ryzen-based integrated graphics. on Intel RDNA2. the most powerful iGPUs of its generation.
Here's a quick tour of the history of these Ryzen U platforms.
AMD Renoir launched in 2020 and featured Ryzen Mobile 4000 APUs with up to 8 cores/16 threads Zen 2 processors and an integrated Radeon Vega GPU with up to 8 compute units.
In 2021, AMD released the updated one.Ryzen 5000 series of APUs, which confusingly consists of two broader processor types: some are based on a slightly revised Zen2+ architecture as part of the Lucienne Zen2+ platform, and others are based on the newer Zen3 architecture under the Cezanne platform.
Then in 2022 AMD released theRembrandt Ryzen 6000 mobile computerIt is based on TSMC's revamped Zen3+ architecture and 6nm compute node.
We reviewed the Ryzen 7 6800U 8C/16T and Ryzen 5 6600U 6C/12T processors for mainstream consumer laptops, as well as a Pro series of Ryzen 7 6850U and Ryzen 7 6650U processors for professional/business models. These are 15-28W power designs and feature RDNA2 graphics with 12 compute units (Radeon 680M) on Ryzen 7 and 6 compute units (Radeon 660M) on Ryzen 5. Here's what you can expect in terms of performance.Chip 12CU Radeon 680M.
finally oneRyzen Barceló 5000 Mobile PlatformIt's also available from 2022, just to make things more confusing. This includes processors like the Ryzen 7 5825U 8C/16T and Ryzen 5 5625U 6C/12T and is a minor revision of the Ryzen 5000 Cezanne 2021 hardware based on the same Zen3 cores and Vega graphics.
And that brings us toPlataformas Ryzen 7000U 2023, which are as confusing and confusing as ever.
On one side are the Ryzen 7 7735U 8C/16T and Ryzen 5 7535U 6C/12T processors, part of the Rembrandt R platform, built on Zen3+ cores and Radeon 680M graphics. These are rebranded versions of the 2022 Ryzen 7 6800U/Ryzen 5 6600U processors.
On the other hand, there are the Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T and Ryzen 5 7530U 6C/12T processors, which are part of the Barceló R platform and are based on Zen3 cores and Vega graphics. These are rebranded versions of the 2022 Ryzen 7 5825U/Ryzen 5 5635U processors.
In other words,no really new Ryzen 7 U processors available this year, based on Zen4 cores or RDNA3 Radeon 780M graphics. Instead you get the new technology in theRyzen 7 HX/HSmiRyzen 9HX/HSplatforms, at least for now.
Here is a current selection ofRyzen U laptops available in your region, and we also cover a detailed list of all commercially available Ryzen U options later in this article.
But first, a quick look at the 2023 Ryzen U 7000, 2022 Ryzen U 6000, and 2021 Ryzen U 5000 platforms, starting with a spec sheet outlining the various APU options and their key pros and cons.

There is also a platform exclusive AMD Ryzen 7 7736U for some products (such as HP Dragonfly Pro) which is identical to Ryzen 7 7735U with the only exception that it has up to 4.75 GHz Max Turbo (vs 4.7 GHz) it can overclock in the regular 7735U).
The Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U CPU is the professional version of the standard Ryzen 7 6800U, with vPro, additional management features, and an integrated Microsoft Pluton Security processor. Otherwise, they both offer exactly the same design and core/memory features. The Ryzen 5 6650U and 6600U are also the same low-end 6C/12T variants with Radeon 660M graphics.
Compared to the previous generation Ryzen 5000 platform, Rembrandt offers increased IPC and Turbo clock speeds, support for faster memory and storage, and greatly improved Radeon graphics.
For the older U platforms, the Ryzen 7 5800U (8C/16T), Ryzen 5 5600U (6C/12T), and Ryzen 3 5400U (4C/8T) are part of the Cezanne platform and get Zen3-based processors with 4 to 8 cores. HyperThreading, an updated memory controller and more L2+L3 cache, faster Radeon Vega integrated graphics, and a plethora of other IPC improvements and optimizations.
By comparison, the Ryzen 7 5700U (8C/16T), Ryzen 5 5500U (6C/12T), and Ryzen 3 5300U (4C/8T) are part of the Lucienne platform and get Zen2+-based processors, with only a few minor processors. . tweaks to 2020 Renoir Zen2 processors. The Lucienne architecture is best explained in this detailed article byanandtech.
