Monte Einses liegt im Nordwesten des LandesinnerenQueenslandEs verfügt außerdem über eines der größten Kupfer-, Zink- und Silbervorkommen der Welt. Die 270 Meter hohen Schornsteine der Gießerei prägen das Bild dieser fleißigen Stadt. In der Stadt und den umliegenden Gebieten leben etwa 20.000 Menschen. Die nicht ganz so hübschen Städte sind eine willkommene Abwechslung auf dem Weg durch die weite rote Wüste. Zu den Höhepunkten zählen die vielen Minenführungen, Museen, ein großer künstlicher Süßwassersee und das jährliche Rodeo. Der Fluss Leichhardt verläuft durch das Zentrum der Stadt und trennt das Stadtgebiet im Osten vom Bergbaugebiet im Westen. Mount Isa liegt in den Tropen mit einem heißen und halbtrockenen Klima mit einer durchschnittlichen Jahrestemperatur von maximal 31,8 °C und minimal 17,3 °C. Während der Trockenzeit/Winterzeit (April bis September) sind die Tage sehr heiß und die Nächte kühl und es regnet wenig bis gar nicht. Hohe Temperaturen und plötzliche Regenfälle kennzeichnen die Regen-/Sommersaison (Oktober bis März).
